AURA funds undergraduate assistants working with faculty members on start-up or continuing research projects. Participating in these projects, AURA-funded assistants contribute to, and learn about, scholarly inquiry. Here are just a few of the projects funded by AURA 2007 – 2009:
We are pleased to say that funding for this program remains an Arts priority. So we invite faculty once again to imagine collegial roles in research for undergraduates. In applying to AURA, faculty may identify students eligible for these positions, typically Year Three or Four majors in the field, or select students once the application has been approved. To be eligible to hold an AURA grant, the principal investigator, and all co-investigators, must have UBC full-time, permanent appointments of the rank of Assistant Professor or higher. Applications from persons at the rank of Instructor II are accepted providing they provide evidence that they will advance to Assistant Professor by the start of an award. Applications are also welcome from UBC emeritus faculties who have held a position at a rank eligible for the award, and providing the proposed research will make a demonstrable contribution to the academic life of UBC.
All persons not at the rank of assistant professor or higher including instructors, visiting scholars, postdoctoral fellows, research associates, adjunct faculty members, and graduate students are ineligible to hold AURA awards.
